Product Spotlight – Coated Banding: PVC, PPP & PPA for Protection & Colour Coding

When to specify coated stainless steel banding and how it extends service life in demanding applications.

Band-N-Go offers three types of coated type 316 stainless steel banding: Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Polypropylene (PPP) and Polyphthalamide (PPA).

Coated banding is recommended when extra corrosion protection is required (e.g. subsea), to guard against galvanic corrosion, for dielectric protection, or when black banding is required.

The main differences between the coatings are operating temperature range, whether they emit halogen gases when burned, and cost.

PVC has the narrowest temperature range and may emit chlorine gas when burned. It is the lowest-cost option and is best used outdoors in a normal ambient temperature range.

PPP has a wider temperature range and contains no halogen compounds.

PPA is the premium coating, with a wide temperature range and no halogen compounds.
